In history there has been different views in police brutality not only with people that have something to do with police but with different races there can be different views on police brutality. The author believes, “Surveys in recent years with minority groups — Latinos and African-Americans, in particular — suggest that confidence in law enforcement is relatively low, and large portions of these communities believe police are likely to use excessive force on suspects.” This supports the idea that peoples trust, respect, and confidence with law enforcement has decreased not only with one racial group but with different kinds. The author implies that “According to a Pew/USA Today poll conducted in August 2014, Americans of all races collectively “give relatively low marks to police departments around the country for holding officers accountable for misconduct, using the appropriate amount of force, and treating racial and ethnic groups equally.” This particularly benefits my belief that people from many races have lost a lot of respect to police authority and maybe law enforcement in general.
Like I said there are multiple point of views on police brutality, one with people being on the side of police and believe what they do is not as bad as it seems, second would have to be those who completely disagree with police and are against their brutality on people, and finally those who are in the middle where people believe that cops are doing their job but then again are taking things a little too far. First, I know a couple of people who have members in their family that are cops and they like to disagree with me at times that what I say is wrong and they believe it’s not all the cops fault on the actions they take. I have asked a Social Justice High School alumnus on what they think on police brutality and they answered, I don’t think it’s completely their fault for what they do in the streets because it’s their job to maintain the community safe and all cops are trained to protect themselves in different situations.” Reason why I decided to ask him was because he wants to become a police officer as his future career. So according to what he said, he doesn’t think it’s more of the police fault they act the way they do, their trained to do things in different situations.
